Sydney Desalination Plant, located in Kurnell, was completed in 2010 and is Sydney's only rainfall independent source of drinking water.  The plant has the capacity to supply around 250 megalitres of drinking water per day, approximately 15% of Sydney's water needs.

The plant is completely powered by renewable energy and is contracted to supply water to Sydney Water until 2062.

The cost of operating and maintaining the desalination plant is determined and regulated by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) in NSW.
